Sources and Change Log

This page lists every document our tables and calculators are built from, the date each rule took effect, and the date we last compared our copy with the original. Below it is the change log: every time a figure, a page or a date on this site changes, the reason is recorded here.

Which documents does each figure come from?

Salaries come from OPM's 2026 salary tables and Executive Order 14368; retirement rules come from OPM's FERS pages, Title 5 of the U.S. Code and the Code of Federal Regulations; earnings limits come from the Social Security Administration. Each row links to the original document so you can check our copy against it.

How do we decide when a figure changes?

A figure changes only when its source document changes: a new OPM table, a signed Executive Order, an SSA announcement or an amended regulation. Proposals stay labeled as proposals. When a source changes, we update the data file, the page date and this log in the same release, so the date on a page always has a reason.

Each January the GS tables change for the new year. That is a real change of facts, so every affected page gets a new date and a log entry naming the new Executive Order. Pages whose content did not change keep their old date.
