About Know Your Pension
Know Your Pension is an independent reference for U.S. federal civilian employees, Postal Service workers covered by FERS, and people applying for federal jobs. It explains General Schedule pay and FERS retirement benefits with calculators and tables built from primary documents.
What the site does
We copy salary tables and retirement rules from the documents that set them — OPM salary tables, the annual pay Executive Order, OPM's retirement guidance, Title 5 of the U.S. Code and its regulations — and turn them into tools that show their arithmetic. Every result names the document and the date it took effect. See how we verify data.
What the site is not
We are not part of the Office of Personnel Management or any federal agency, and we do not give financial, legal or tax advice. Our figures are estimates. Your official pay and retirement figures come from your agency, your SF-50 and OPM. We do not tell anyone which retirement date or benefit option to choose.
History of this domain
This domain previously hosted a different pension information site; the current site is an independent reference for U.S. federal employees, launched in 2026. None of the earlier site's material has been republished here, and links to its old pages return a "gone" status.
Who edits the site
The site is edited by Martin Rowe. Corrections and questions are welcome through the contact page.
How the site is funded
The site may show a small number of clearly marked advertisements. Advertisers have no say over what we publish, and ads never appear inside a calculator. Calculators run in your browser and do not send what you type anywhere.
